Release of Toyota CAMRY 2018

Release of Toyota camry 2018

Review The Toyota Camry will be completely redesigned for the 2018 model year. Along with an updated platform and design, the automaker's bestselling sedan will gain an updated gas engine and hybrid powertrain. Advanced driver assistance technology will come standard.

The new Camry will be built on a modular platform dubbed TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture). Along with helping cut development costs, this has helped Toyota lower the Camry's center of gravity to help create a more planted driving experience. The wheels have also been pushed outward, helping create a stance we typically see on more premium vehicles.

Four familiar trim levels will be available: LE, XLE, SE and XSE. Shoppers looking for the sportiest versions will want to consider the SE and XSE versions, which will get 19-inch black machined-finish wheels, more sculpted rocker panels and more aggressive bumper treatments with front lip spoiler and integrated rear diffuser. In the case of the XSE, drivers get a unique Cockpit Red interior.

Under the hood, the Camry gets an updated 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine that Toyota says will produce 206 hp, considerably more than the current car's 178 hp rating. Fuel economy will rise to 29 mpg city and 41 mpg highway. With 34 mpg combined, the car is a big step forward compared to the current rating of 27 mpg.

Similarly, the V6, available in XLE and XSE styles, benefits from a big boost in power to 301 hp and 267 lb-ft of torque, increases of 33 hp and 19 lb-ft compared to the current car. Fuel economy will come in at 22 mpg city, 33 mpg highway and 26 mpg combined. This equates to a 2 mpg gain in overall efficiency over the current car despite the increase in power.

Both versions benefit from a new 8-speed automatic transmission (versus the current car's 6-speed gearbox), arguably a refreshing decision given the increased prevalence of CVT transmissions in competitors like the Nissan Altima and Honda Accord.

The Camry Hybrid will also benefit from an updated powerplant. It will feature the same updated engine as the gas model paired with an electric motor that the automaker says will earn best-in-class fuel economy. Perhaps the biggest change, however, is the addition of a new Sport Mode that allows the driver to simulate gear shifts akin to a 6-speed transmission.

In terms of safety, all 2018 Camrys will come standard with the automaker's TSS-P system (Toyota Safety Sense) which includes adaptive cruise control, a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane departure alert and more. Upper trims will come with blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert as well.

Pricing & Release Date

Based on our analysis, deals on the outgoing model have been very aggressive due to a slump in demand for midsize cars. Shoppers should expect to be able to get a great deal, whether it's a large cashback incentive or 0% financing.

Official 2018 pricing will start at $24,380 with destination, $425 more than the outgoing generation. However, at the top end of the spectrum, the XSE V6 will be $3,580 more expensive than the previous year. Please see below for a full list of prices.
